This question came up in a FrameMaker class recently: my student needed to provide a single PDF for a large project, and then break it into smaller sections for posting online. FrameMaker has a checkbox for this function and that solved her issue.

What is a PDC file?
Files with the .PDC extension contain a PDF file subjected to multi-level protection and encryption. The 256-bit AES encryption, DRM controllers that protect digital rights, and the network-based real-time licensing system protect the file from unauthorized access – it can be opened, copied, shared, modified, and printed only by authorized users.
Such protected PDC files are created by the Lizard Safeguard PDF software, which converts a regular PDF file into a secure format.

If you cannot open the PDC file on your computer - there may be several reasons. The first and most important reason (the most common) is the lack of a suitable software that supports PDC among those that are installed on your device.
A very simple way to solve this problem is to find and download the appropriate application. The first part of the task has already been done – the software supporting the PDC file can be found in the table. Now just download and install the appropriate application.
Possible problems with the PDC format files
The inability to open and operate the PDC file does not necessarily mean that you do not have an appropriate software installed on your computer. There may be other problems that also block our ability to operate the Lizard Safeguard Secure PDF Format file. Below is a list of possible problems.
- Corruption of a PDC file which is being opened
- Incorrect links to the PDC file in registry entries.
- Accidental deletion of the description of the PDC from the Windows registry

- Drivers of equipment used by the computer to open a PDC file are out of date.
